As someone who buys a LOT of plumbing parts & pieces (I renovate old apartment buildings & houses for a living), I tend to avoid the cheap and the trendy and stick with the classics that are tried and true.Unfortunately, Moen products fall into the former instead of the latter category.

Twice in the past 15 years I've bought Moen products for a bathroom renovation project--instead of the Kohler products that I tend to use day in and day out.And both times those Moen products have failed quickly and indefensibly. The first time it was a Monticello faucet that the (cheap, chrome plated plastic) handle snapped off of.The second time was the above showerhead (model # 26092, which is sold at Lowes and various other retail outlets for about $35, but listed on the Moen website as the "Adler" model, at $125).

I bought this showerhead for for a vintage restoration I did in Salt Lake City.A Victorian bath with claw tub.I modified the claw tub faucet--which had no shower outlet--with a diverter, and ran a line up into the ceiling for an overhead rain shower. This was the showerhead I used--and it worked fine for about 3 years--then inexplicably split at the seams one day--spraying water all over the bathroom in the process.

Now, the showerheads I usually pull out of these old bathrooms are usually still functional--though sometimes 20, 30, even 40+ years old.And this particular showerhead had no moving parts whatsoever. It's basically a sieve that fills up with water and lets it pour out onto the person standing below it.Not high tech in any way.And yet, they built it so cheaply that it simply broke at the seams after just three short years of relatively easy use.Literally, no one has even touched the showerhead since it was installed. It's seven feet off the ground and just pours water straight down.No reason to adjust it.

Of course, Moen--like pretty much all of the big plumbing fixture manufacturers--has a "lifetime warranty" on most of its plumbing fixtures. So, instead of spending the extra 30 cents to fabricate them to last from the start, they'll just make 'em cheap and send a new one to anyone who happens to remember that it is covered with a lifetime warranty.(Most people don't know or remember that. They just go down and buy a new faucet or showerhead or part if it fails after a year or two. We're programmed to accept cheap goods nowadays.)

So, if you just need a showerhead that "looks" good for a couple of years--and works reasonably well during that time--this, and a lot of other cheap products out there will suffice. But if you don't want to have to replace your showerhead every few years--don't buy a Moen--or any other cheaper, trendy brand.(Danze, Price Pfister, PEGASUS (the worst!), etc.Spend a little money on Kohler or like quality.
